Printing process
Giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) is the name for the process of using ink-jet printing to create fine art prints from a digital image. It is the process of choice for fine art prints where color matching is critical. The Giclée process creates prints using fade resistant "archival" inks.
Artists use the Giclée printing processes to make limited edition, high-end reproductions of original two dimensional artwork.
Giclée printing has the added advantage of allowing the artist to control every aspect of the image, its color, the substrate printed on, etc.
Because of this, Giclée prints can technically be called “prints”, i.e. an image where the artist has a hand in actual production.
